The Story Behind the Monograph
Louise Saxton, a profound artist known for her intricate textile-based creations, has recently released her long-awaited Cut & Pinned - Monograph, now available for purchase online and in select bookstores. This 168-page, full-colour hardcover book, showcases Louise's intricate textile works, divided into three main chapters: NATURE, BODY, and HOMAGE. This book is a reflection of her decades-long career, including Louise’s most celebrated works, spanning themes of nature, memory, feminism and sustainability.
It was just four months ago that Louise came to Tektown to seek assistance to self-merchandise her Monograph using a pre-order system that ensured that fans of Louise's art could secure a copy of her book before it went to market. As anyone who knows Louise would well know, she is a perfectionist in every sense of the word and Tektown was very privileged to share in the creative control of this project.
To help launch her Monograph, Tektown created an e-commerce system, conducted web design, and offered ongoing strategy.
Building a Friendship Through Collaboration
Over the course of these past few months, Louise and Tektown formed a strong and meaningful connection. From day one, it was clear that this project wasn’t just a professional endeavour—it was a deeply personal journey for Louise.
As we worked together, we developed a friendship grounded in mutual respect and shared passion for creativity. Our meetings were not just about the logistics of the pre-order system; they were opportunities to learn about Louise’s artistry, her inspirations, and the incredible effort she had invested in crafting this Monograph and her amazing life dedicated to art.
The Road to Success
As we reflect on this journey with Louise, it’s clear that Louise was able to sell her Monograph in a way that stayed true to her and also honours the personal connection she has with her audience.
We did this by supporting Louie's vision and combining a thoughtful system with an ethical marketing strategy to release to her existing supporters and new audiences alike.
The result was a comprehensive pre-launch system that incorporated a bold Product Page, which you can view here. This custom-built page became the hub for her online sales, designed not only to reflect the elegance of her work but to simplify the purchasing experience for customers worldwide.
The success of the pre-launch system and the positive reception of the book—demonstrates the value in listening to your clients needs and always putting what works for them before anything else. This journey was a testament to the power of combining artist merit and digital strategy, and it’s a project Tektown will always cherish.
Louise Saxton’s Artistic Legacy
Louise Saxton’s journey into textile art began in the 2000s with her reinterpretation of Sarah Stone’s 1790 painting of a female King Parrot. Using embroidery, lace, and found textiles, Louise painstakingly recreated historical artworks, focusing on the eye as her starting point. Over the next 15 years, she reimagined works by artists like Vermeer, Audubon, and Frida Kahlo, elevating domestic materials traditionally seen as "women’s work." Her pieces honour heritage crafts, turning discarded textiles into a celebration of artistry and history.
Louise’s Monograph is not just a collection of artworks; it is a visual history of her extraordinary career. Her work has been featured in prominent galleries including, Heide Museum of Modern Art, the Art Gallery of Ballarat, LINDEN New Art, Wangaratta Art Gallery and soon to be exhibited with a new acquisition at the Geelong Gallery. Louise has also exhibited in Europe, Malaysia, Singapore and the USA. Through her intricate pieces like The Ornithology Series and Sanctuary, Louise reimagines discarded textiles, breathing new life into forgotten materials while exploring themes of beauty, fragility, and sustainability.
The Monograph captures the depth of her work, with nods to historical influences such as Margaret Preston and Mary Delany, whose impact is evident in Louise’s meticulous designs. Each page of the Monograph reveals a different aspect of Louise’s artistic journey, inviting readers to connect with her creative process.
Her Monograph doesn’t just tell the story of her artwork; it speaks to her lifelong dedication to environmental awareness and her unique ability to turn overlooked materials into something beautiful and profound.
